Eat Street Markets - Review

The newest sensation, in our not so little city, are the Eat Street Markets. I have been here quite a few times and each visit I feel like sharing this unique concept with all my readers.
So here goes..Eat Street from my lens!
DAY
Let me warn you, you will end up eating more than you
should. So we convince ourselves that walking around the markets kind of balances off the excessive eating. Think thin, think thin!!!
NIGHT
Spread over half an acre, adjoining the river are a variety of food stalls in shipping containers. The containers gives it a rustic feel and also kind of chic.

There’s live music, children running around, couples walking hand in hand and sharing some honey puffs or kebabs and families sitting on chairs made of plastic crates, covered with artificial grass.

Tables are barrel cut outs and benches made from wooden palettes. The whole place screams, modern retro, at a very affordable cost.
Okay, enough about the place and lets just get into the variety of deliciousness this place offers.
Vietnamese, Thai, German, Hungarian, Italian, Indian are a few of the many options, along with some donuts, cronuts, honepuffs, gelato, popcorn, chocolate and green juice stalls, scattered across the market place.

There are two big drinks sections and you get a decent variety of beers and wines.
The gluten free donuts are the best, but we love to binge on the honey puffs with walnuts.

The markets run from noon to late night on Fri, Sat and Sun. Check the website for exact times.
My favourite time is Saturday evening or Sunday during the day. On a lovely spring or fall day, when the weather is slightly chilly and all you crave is good and many varieties of food, a visit to Eat Street is a must.

A light jack and scarf, some comfy shoes, lots of change and a sling or cross body purse, is my outfit of choice for enjoying a fun evening at the markets.

When you first arrive, you are so over whelmed with all the options, so here’s what we like to do. We go to the POPCORN MAN, and grab a box of freshly popped corn and walk from one end to the other, making a mental note of food items we would like to try.
I grab a table as Mr N, places orders at various food stalls.
As I wait I take some pictures of the uniquely designed shops, a few selfies and wait impatiently for the food.

So far we have tried the Hungarian langos, Malaysian curry, Vietnamese pineapple rice, Crepes, some kebabs…but what we really enjoy and like to do is this.
Grab a bag (yes I said bag and not box) of pop corn, a glass of wine, some honey puffs, a pretzel with some non alcoholic beer, and just walk around enjoying the music. Believe me this is plenty of food, nothing healthy about it, but it’s the weekend and this is what you need to get over the long week. And if we are still hungry, we will get a curry.

Recently though an Indian stall grabbed our attention and we went all out. Chole Bhatura, Aloo Puri, Pav Bhaji and 2 cups of the most well-made, perfectly brewed chai!!
So if you are in the Brisbane area, go check out these markets, for a fun filled family day, an informal date or just hang out with your friends.
There's lot more you can do here, like watch a movie on big screen, shop for food, clothes and other house hold knickknacks.
For us its the food and ambiance!!

I love it when there is a big cruise ship docked right in front of the markets and as it leaves the harbor, you cant help but wish all the passengers aboard a bon voyage.

As the sun sets over the gorgeous city skyline and as the twinkling fairy lights, that adorn the little streets of the Eat Street Markets, come to life, I feel like hugging this gorgeous country town and thank God for giving me a good palate and a decent digestive system.
