Paneer Puffs

Paneer Puffs
A great snack, and one of my childhood favorites.

Ingredients:

  • 1 Sheet Store bought Puff Pastry
  • 100 g Paneer (Cottage cheese)(hard, cut into cubes or rectangle)
  • 1/4 Cup Plain flour
  • 1/4 Cup milk for brushing

Marination:

  • 2 tbsp. Sweet Chili sauce
  • 2-3 tsp. Soy sauce
  • 2 tsp. Chili flakes (add more or less as per your liking)
  • 2 tsp. Garlic powder or paste
  • 2 tsp. Sesame oil
  • 2-3 tsp. Olive oil (if required)
  • Salt to taste

Method:

  1. Prepare the marination in a bowl. (You can play up the marinate any which way you like, this is my favorite combination but if you have a store bought jar of stir fry, curry or bbq sauce use that.)
  2. Add the paneer pieces to marinate coating each piece really well. Refrigerate for 20-30 mins.
  3. In the mean while thaw your puff pastry to bring it to room temperature.
  4. Dust the surface on which you roll out the puff pastry really well with some plain flour.
  5. Take a rolling pin and roll out the puff pastry from all sides evenly. It is very important that the pastry is at room temperature.
  6. Cut into equal sized rectangle.
  7. Remove marination from the fridge.
  8. Place one piece of the paneer along with some of the sauce in the center of the rectangle. Brush the sides with some milk and fold over.
  9. Press all the edges together, the milk helps with sealing the sides. Keep the filled pastry on a greased baking sheet.
  10. Once you have filled in all the pastry puffs, brush them with milk.
  11. Next place them in a pre-heated oven at 150 degree C for 10 minutes. Next turn off the oven and switch the tray to the top rack of the oven and start the grill. Let it grill on medium for another 10 mins or untill the top develops a nice crust.
  12. My oven is old, so I need to do this, but if your oven is new and you get a even color & baking by just placing the tray in the middle rack & letting it bake for 15-20 mins, then you dont need to use the grill mode.

Take it out & serve with any sauce of your choice or just eat it as is with a nice cuppa.
