To start off you must visit your local grocer and then make a quick trip to an Indian store for some key ingredients.

- Rice (Basmati preferrably)
- Split Yellow Lentils or Moong dal
- Chick peas (I use organic canned)
- Onions
- Potato
- Tomato paste or
- Raw tomatoes
- Ginger
- Garlic
- Ginger & garlic paste
- Tamarind paste
- Coconut milk/dry coconut
- Whole wheat flour
- Semolina or Rawa
- Salt/Sugar
- Rice barn or Olive or Cannola Oil
- Cloves
- Cinnamon
- Cardamom
- Dry Bay leaves
- Dry Red chillies
- Peppercorns
