STORE CUPBOARD

 

To start off you must visit your local grocer and then make a quick trip to an Indian store for some key ingredients.



Ingredients 

  • Rice (Basmati preferrably) 
  • Split Yellow Lentils or Moong dal
  • Chick peas (I use organic canned) 
  • Onions
  • Potato
  • Tomato paste or 
  • Raw tomatoes  
  • Ginger 
  • Garlic
  • Ginger & garlic paste 
  • Tamarind paste
  • Coconut milk/dry coconut 
  • Whole wheat flour 
  • Semolina or Rawa 
  • Salt/Sugar
  • Rice barn or Olive or Cannola Oil
Spices
    1. Garam masala powder
    2. Chana or Chole Masala
    3. Mustard seeds
    4. Fennel seeds
    5. Turmeric powder
    6. Chilli powder
    7. Cumin Seeds
    8. Coriander powder
    9. Cumin powder 
    10. Asafoetida
    11. Mustard powder
Exotic Whole Spices 
  1. Cloves
  2. Cinnamon 
  3. Cardamom
  4. Dry Bay leaves
  5. Dry Red chillies
  6. Peppercorns 
If you have these basic items in your store cupboard you can churn up a quick meal in no time!
