Paneer Butter Masala


Absolutely delicious, quick and easy Paneer recipe. Its my mom's recipe and I am in love with it.

Ingredients:
  • 450g or 2 cups Paneer- cut into cubes
  • 250g Can of Tomatoes or 2 Tomatoes roughly chopped 
  • 1 cup Finely chopped onions
  • 3-4 Garlic cloves (peeled)  
  • 2 tbsp. Oil
  • 1 -2 tbsp each of:
    • Coriander powder
    • Cumin powder
    • Garam masala
  • ½ tsp. Red chili powder
  • ¼ tsp. Turmeric powder 
  • Salt to taste
  • ½-1 Cup water
  • 2 tsp. Butter (optional) 
  • ¼ cup Thick Cream (optional) 
  • 1 tbsp. Kasoori Methi (optional) 
Method:
  1. In a blender add the tomatoes, onion and garlic cloves. Blend to a fine puree or paste. 
  2. In a pan heat the oil. You may add some butter at this stage. 
  3. When the oil is hot add the paste. Cook till all water evaporates & oil starts to release from the paste. Keep stirring occasionally. This may take 5-8mins You may cover the pan to avoid spluttering. 
  4. Add the spices (cumin, coriander, turmeric, chili, garam masala) and salt. Mix well. Cook for 2 mins. 
  5. Add the paneer pieces. Coat them well with the gravy. You could pan fry the paneer pieces if you like & then add them to the gravy. 
  6. Next, crush the Kasoori Methi in between the palms of your hands & add to the curry.
  7. Add about half to one cup water to make a nice gravy. Add more water if the gravy is too thick. 
  8. Mix well & add the cream. 
  9. Check seasoning, if you want to be extra fancy you could add a few tsp. of butter for extra texture.
