Spinach with Cottage Cheese a.k.a Palak Paneer

Palak Paneer

Ingredients: Serves 2
  • 1Packet of frozen spinach
  • 1 Tsps. Cumin seeds
  • 1 Large onion finely chopped
  • 4-5 Cloves of Garlic chopped
  • 1 Cup plain yogurt
  • 1 Cup Paneer or Cottage Cheese Cut into cubes
  • Juice of half lemon 
  • 2 Tsp. Oil
  • Salt  to taste
  • 1 Tsp. Red chilli powder
  • 1 Tsp. Cumin powder
  • 1½ Tsps. Coriander Powder
  • 1½ Tsps. Garam Masala Powder
  1. Thaw and chop the spinach. If using fresh spinach wash, boil and chop the leaves. Leave them aside
  2. In a pan add the oil. When hot add the cumin seeds. They will crackle. Now add the chopped onions and sauté for 5-10 minutes till onions become soft and translucent
  3. Add the chopped garlic and cook for another 2 minutes
  4. Add all the spices except the garam masala. Add the yogurt to the spices and onion mixture and cool everything for 2-3 minutes
  5. Now add the spinach. Mix it well with the spice mixture
  6. Cover and cook till spinach is wilted and cooked through. add salt to taste. 
  7. Now add the garam masala. Mix well
  8. Add the cottage cheese cut into cubes. Cover and cook on very low heat for a few minutes.
  9. Squeeze lemon juice and mix well before serving
Serve with roti or flat bread. Healthy green dish ready in a less than 30 minutes
